Gestalt Design

The base Adventure Cycle geometries provide a sound platform for creating an ideal fit for long distance touring. With custom geometry available at no extra charge, you can adapt your frame to meet your specific needs.

The sloped top tube design of the base geometries pushes the handlebar position 25mm (1") higher than they would be with a horizontal top tube, while keeping the same average standover height as the horizontal top tube equivalent. To do this, the seatmast is shortened by 25mm, resulting in a 50mm (2") total slope. Thus, a 56cm frame has a seatmast that's only 53.5cm tall, but that bars are in the same position as they would be on a 58.5cm frame.

It's just one more reason why the Adventure Cycle leads all other touring bike designs.

  • Actual seatmast lengths measure 25mm lower than the "size". The top tube slopes upward to a point 25mm higher than the traditional horizontal intersection with the head tube. Standover height is measured at the middle of the top tube based on 700x38C (or 26"x1.5" for small frame sizes) tires. Press here to see an illustration of how this works.
  • You can customize these geometries to meet your special needs: Full custom geometry puts you in full control over the design while availing yourself of some of the finest design talent in the industry.
  • Seatmast length refers to the distance between the center of the bottom bracket shell to the top of the lug ("center-to-top"). Subtract 1.4cm to determine the equivalent center-to-center measurement. For example, a 56cm center-to-top is the equivalent to 54.6cm center-to-center.
  • Wheelbase/standover height are rounded to the nearest 5mm or 0.5 inches.
