Designs :: Adventure Cycle

Models 1900 and T-14

The Adventure Cycle Frameset offers riders a rugged chassis to support a wide range of uses, from cross-continent unsupported tours to commuting around town. The geometry provides a stable, comfortable ride with plenty of room and bosses to accomodate on-bike storage. We call it Gestalt Design - design to enhance every aspect of the rider's experience - design to completely serve the rider.

Tubing:

>The Adventure Cycle series starts with the beefiest air-hardening tubes available.

  • Special oversized diameter tubing throughout the frame increases tubing stiffness while minimizing weight. Flaring the seatmast at the bottom bracket adds stiffness where it has the maximum impact on pedaling efficiency.
  • The special Adventure Cycle tubing helps minimize high-speed wobble as well as to support big loads (up to 90 lbs. / 40kg).
  • Our special tubes also work with the S&S coupler system (which lets you pack your bike in a standard airline checkable luggage case).
  • Our beefed up custom OX Platinum chainstays provides all the strength, durability and performance you'll ever need.
  • The Adventure Cycle series provides tire clearance for 40C tires and chainwheel clearance for triples.

Geometries

Our The Adventure Cycle Geometry Table show the care we've put into these designs:

  • The long wheelbase and stable steering combine to create ideal handling for long-distance loaded touring as well as a comfortable ride around town.
  • The sloped top tube base design lets you sit relatively upright, especially when combined with an up to 20mm head tube extension.
  • Front-end geometry changes with size to maintain the appropriate ride throughout the range of sizes.
  • Seat angles and top tube lengths comfortably fit American proportions for all sizes. 26" (mountain bike rim diameter) wheels for smaller sizes assures a comfortable fit without toe-clip overlap with a good tire availability.
  • In addition to well-designed stock geometries, you can order your Adventure Cycle made-to-measure for no extra charge. You get exactly the fit you need!
  • Longer chainstays add ride comfort, accommodate larger tires(as high as some 38C tires or 35C with fenders) and allow for plenty of rear pannier clearance.
  • Rear dropouts are spread to 135mm for extra wheel strength due to better wheel dish.

Forks

You can order a number of quality forks for your road sport extended. We take pains to match precisely your frame with your fork to assure the best possible ride:

Waterford's Adventure Cycle Steel Fork

No builder creates a steel fork with the ride of a Waterford fork. The combination of stiff crown, beefy and soft blade tips combines to offer what many riders characterize as the best ride you can buy plus the carrying capacity you need to travel around the world!

  • The Waterford cross investment cast fork crown offers appropriate steering and excellent tire clearance. Our in-house fork-building capability lets us offer handling packages that fall outside the range of the available composite forks.
  • Waterford 1" forks are available as both threaded and threadless configurations at no extra charge. The 1 1/8" fork is only available in threadless.
  • Custom-engineered Reynolds 531 constant wall thickness fork blades as well as our special fork rake offer excellent shock damping.
  • The 22-series fork receives Waterford stainless steel dropouts. Your dropout faces stay clean - no rust or peeling of the finish.
  • You get your choice of three front rack mounting patterns - the Blackburn FL-1 Low-rider mounting, Blackburn CL-1 custom mounting pattern and the Tubus Tara mounting standard. Other mounting patterns are available at an extra charge.

Composite forks

Waterford offers a number of composite fork options. None are designed for high load carrying capacity. If you plan your Adventure Cycle only as a light commuting bike, you may want to consider the following composite fork option:

  • True Temper Alpha Q cross fork with TI steerer tube

Details

1900

  • Waterford's stainless steel investment-cast vertical dropouts maintain high strength while eliminating corrosion and paint abrasion from quick release levers. Regardless of the model, we maintain such tight alignment standards that no dropout adjusters are required on the frame. Double dropout eyelets are cast into the dropouts.
  • Riders looking for a more upright position might benefit from our head tube extensions. Press here for an example of a 20mm extension.
  • Don't forget about our remarkable bottom bracket on the 1900.
  • Framesets typically come with all the braze-ons you'll need including cantilever bosses, rear brake cable hanger, double rear eyelets, rack mounts and three sets of water bottle braze-ons.
  • We place top tube split brake cable guides down low where they won't interfere with pedalling or other handling.

T-14

  • Uses OS (1 1/8" top tube, 1 1/4" downtube) or variant tubesets.
  • Available for both 1" and 1 1/8" steerer tubes.
  • Versatile downtube shifter bosses are available.
  • Our brazed-on seat collar provides a finished look and secure clamping power.
  • Our stainless steel vertical dropouts have a clean look while holding the rear wheel firmly in place.
