Waterford Fades

Fades fall into the following categories:.

Below is an example of a "panel fade" - made to look like panels:

The above are just the most popular styles. The are lots of other ways to fade paint. Consider these tips for creating fades you'll enjoy for years:
  • In general, metallics should fade to metallics and solids to solids. For example, Candy Red fades nicely to Blue Flame or Silver while it doesn't work as well fading to Black or Burnt Orange. On the other hand, Intense Red (a solid) fades nicely to Hyper-Canary Yellow, Black or or White but is tougher fading to Silver or Goldfinger.
  • Decals should complement the color. If the fade line crosses the decals then the decal colors should complement both base colors. For example, if you are fading Yellow to Red, Consider a Silver or White decal with black accents.
  • If designing a fade then don't combine with too many special effects. For example, putting pinstriping over a fade job pays adequate homage to neither the classicness of the pinstriping nor the raciness of the fade.

When creating a custom fade, use the handy map below. For example, a diagonal fade would run from S3 to G.
