Waterford Reynolds Butted Titanium 55-Series

A new material for the historic Waterford line-up, but not a new material for our design and fabrication teams. Titanium has achieved and solidified a “mythic” status among framebuilders and bicycle enthusiasts. Many factors contribute to this status, such as Titanium has to be perfectly sterile before welding and must be back-purged with Argon.

Our 55-series titanium bicycles are comprised of double butted top tube, down tube, swedged, shaped, and butted chainstays, with a straight gauge seatstays and seat tube. Fiberglass seat tube sleeves prevent galvanic corrosion for alloy seatposts.

Titanium comes in at just over half the density of modern steel alloys. This lower density is overcome through the use of large tube diameters. Despite increasing the tube diameters, titanium bike frames are much lighter than their steel counterparts. Titanium also flexes more under the same load when compared to steel, which means it really excels in lightweight on-road comfort and off-road durability.

Properly constructed titanium frames and specialized butted tubing mean your new 55-series titanium bicycle will last a lifetime or more. This, combined with titanium being a non-ferrous metal, means it will not rust or corrode throughout the life of the bicycle. Similar (different processes) to stainless, titanium forms a thin layer of titanium oxide on the surface, which is highly scratch and abrasion-resistant.

Finishing and geometry options are nearly limitless. Standard 55-series frames available with brush or polished logos and a ceramic bead-blasted base. Automotive wet paint, Cerakote, or anodizing are available in any combination upon request.
