FAQs
How does the custom build process work?
Our process typically starts with a consultation (phone or in-person) to discuss your riding style and goals. We then move to design the geometry and help you select the tubing and components. Once the design is finalized and a deposit is paid, your bike enters our build queue.
What materials do you work with?
We specialize in both TIG and Lug-welded Reynolds 853, Columbus Max, or Columbus XCr Stainless tubing, as well as our own select blend of custom 3AL-2.5V butted Titanium.
Can I choose my own components and paint?
Absolutely. You can choose everything from the groupset and wheelset to the smallest details like cable routing and bottle boss placement. For aesthetics, we offer a range of house colors and finishes, as well as fully bespoke paint schemes through our partner painters.
I already have a bike I love; can you duplicate the geometry?
Yes. If you have a "forever fit," we can use those measurements as a baseline and refine them based on any new goals you have for this specific build.
Lead Times & Ordering
What is the current lead time for a custom frame?
Lead times fluctuate based on our current queue and material availability. Typically, a custom frame takes 8–12 weeks, while a complete build may take longer depending on component lead times. We will provide a more accurate estimate during your consultation.
How do I secure a spot in the build queue?
We require a non-refundable deposit (typically 50% of the frame price) to secure your place in line and begin the design process. The remaining balance is due upon the start of the frame manufacturing process.
Do you offer "stock" sizes?
While we specialize in custom geometry, we occasionally offer stock geometry for our most popular models with shorter lead times. Check our stock geometry section for current sizing.
Sizing & Fit
Do I need a professional bike fit before ordering?
We do recommend, but not entirely necessary. A professional fit ensures your custom geometry is built for your body, but we do have a very specific fit sheet that can be sent to you. From the fit sheet provided, we develop a BikeCad drawing for you to review. If you aren't local to us, we can work with a fit report from your local specialist and can apply the cost of this fit session towards the purchase price of your new bike.
What if I’m between sizes?
That’s the beauty of custom! We don't believe in "between sizes." We build the bike to fit your specific reach, stack, and standover requirements.
Shipping & Support
How will my bike be delivered?
Local Pickup: You are welcome to visit our workshop for a final fitting and "new bike day" handover.
Shipping: We ship worldwide using specialized bike couriers. The bike will arrive 90% assembled; you (or your local shop) will typically need to install the handlebars, front wheel, and pedals.
What is the warranty on a custom frame?
We stand by our craft. We offer a limited Lifetime Warranty to the original owner against manufacturing defects. Components are covered by their respective manufacturers' warranties.
Do you offer "Crash Replacement"?
We know accidents happen. If your frame is damaged in a crash, we offer repair services or a discounted replacement frame to get you back on the road as quickly as possible.
What about your “ Trade-In / Trade-Up " program?
Have an older Waterford and would like to get on a new one? Take advantage of our Trade-Up program. Send us some photos of your current bike that you’d like to trade in, along with your specific frame or bike model, and we’ll calculate a trade-in credit towards a brand new Waterford bike.
